mooee yard : Homesickness-syndrome

YouTube continues to be my source of new music. Following different labels and publishers opens up visibility to new, old, and continuing artists. mooee yard is an artist that I would have probably not found unless I saw the music video. The first single arrived in 2022 and it looks like Homesickness-syndrome is a collection of previously released singles.

“Salvation” is a warm, melodic, and mellow indie track. It flows between pop, folk, and rock depending on the verse, and gives a nice introduction. mooee yard’s vocals sound like a product of the environment, with a lot of personal work and practice. The single doesn’t have any surprises, but it works best as something familiar.

Aside from the surprising title, “Shitty Day” sounds like an OST single. It’s another song that follows generally standard indie pop rock formulas. It’s nice to the ears and doesn’t stress any elements. “Nonsense” slides into indie folk and a slight country hop. It splits the EP well.

“Taxi Driver” fits perfectly in the Homesickness-syndrome’s construction. mooee yard is very solid artist who is following a comfortable path. Even “Even If We Get Old” with its Shin Seung Eun feature feels and sounds expected. It’s only “Homesickness-syndrome” that goes in a different direction, mainly because the bass has a little bit of distortion on it.

Collecting a set of singles into a release has a 50/50 chance of succeeding or failing. If there’s a lot of time in between each release, you lose a cohesive narrative between songs. mooee yard has a consistent sound and style and Homesickness-syndrome is a fun and expected listen. It’s good but I wonder what the direction is now after these songs are now packaged.
