Albums We Didn’t Review 12 : Vincent Sunrise, Damons year, Yellow Cottage, Tomo, Shin Yun Su, PACHOSUN, Simoya, The Blokes, Baepsadeul, Sun’stroll, Sucozy, eobchae

Vincent Sunrise : My Home Is You

Vincent Sunrise is the solo work of a member of Park Bench Club. My Home Is You is a mellow four-song EP that carries some small hints of band work, but also has a more personal tone. I wonder if these were demos that didn’t fit Park Bench Club. “Ain’t Nobody” is definitely the strongest and fully thought-out track.

Genre: indie rock, R&B

Damons year : CORPUS 0

Damons year somehow releases solid albums every single time. There’s an acknowledged growth between releases while also showcasing growth in the songwriting, composition, and production. CORPUS 0 is another solid that will be on best of lists while also bringing in more international fans to Korean music.

Genre: indie rock, rock

Yellow Cottage : Yellow Cottage

I’m always impressed when I hear unexpected styles from Korean artists. Yellow Cottage plays folk, bluegrass, and indie folk with a little bit of country, depending on the song. The seven-song album is surprising because each song has its own quirk while following the album’s narrative. Something worth listening to if you want something new.

TOMO : The Park

Tomo‘s The Park sounds like a collection of ideas expanded into instrumental tracks. The styles differ depending on what you’re listening to. There’s some funk, some electronic, jazz, and rock also make appearances. This does cause The Park to have a bit of a wandering narrative, but it’s a nice tonal cleanser.

Genre: electronic, funk, rock

Shin Yun Su : Wherever

Instagram | Apple Music | Spotify | YouTube Music is decisively solid with every release. The understated indie rock sound comes out here, and I really enjoy listening to her music at random times. Each release continues to impress, and the songwriting and production noticeably improve.

Genre: indie rock

PACHOSUN : Out of the darkness

PACHOSUN plays a kind of nostalgic indie rock. Like it’s a style that was around in 2008-2012. There’s a focus on strong melodies even when the music is mellow. If there’s a single word I would use to describe the music, it’s “comfortable.”

Siimoya : Breath

Six songs, with an intro and outro, make up Breath. It’s an overall light synth and electronic production. It feels like different stages of mediation, and Siimoya is taking you through many emotions to expose your full spectrum.

Genre; electronic

The Blokes : BLUE Vol. 1

The main problem with BLUE Vol.1 is that I don’t know what style the band wants to perform. It’s essentially four songs searching in different directions from mellow ballad indie rock, funk, commercial melodic rock, and commercial pop rock. Each song is composed and arranged well, but there’s a lack of cohesiveness.

Genre: ballad indie rock, funk, commercial rock

Baepsadeul : Jajo

Baepsadeul will remind you more of other bands’ songs than their own. I think it’s the slow tempo and some of the melodic lines across verses. Jajo is a very comfortable EP without any real surprises. “Longing” was the most engaging song for sure. Also, l couldn’t find the band on Apple Music or YouTube Music which is a necessity.

Genre: comfortable indie rock

Sun’stroll : Distorted Diary

Distorted Diary is the perfect description for the album because it’s a random mix of songs across multiple genres while also mixing them together. The randomness actually gives the album a stronger narrative because Sun’stoll is presenting a single vision.

Genre: electronic, alternative

sucozy : From a distance

I said this on “Meet Me Halfway,” but sucozy is finding his stride and everything is becoming more cohesive and thought out. His melodic rock style is becoming a lot more polished and his compositions are getting stronger. It’s great to watch an artist continue to grow.

eobchae : idempotentia

I think eobchae is the project between Nahee Kim, Cheonseok Oh, and HWI, according to the Bugs bio. idempotentia is called a “soundtrack,” but most of the time, I don’t know what I’m listening to. It’s weird, addictive, and sometimes sounds like a car crash of ideas that work and don’t work in a 50/50 balance. Go in with no expectations.

Genre: electronic, experimental
