kkumbugchew sent an email about their first album, Childlike Future.
From the first song, “Our Vacation,” the album is a nostalgic and strangely hypnotic listen. The duo, ID Saan and Jojae, call their style “keepsake box electronica.” And that’s very accurate.
Foundationally living inside electronic music, the pair also pulls from chiptune, vocal samples, and 8-bit. It sounds like the past while accessing the future in a weird way.
This album was made from the sounds of our childhood.
The scratch of pencils, the pop of toy lasers,
the nonsense words we shouted without thinking.
Through these sounds we’ re not merely aiming for nostalgia or playful charm —
there is a message we hope to share.

From my preview of Childlike Future, the album is something new while also connecting with a child’s sensory memory.
