Peach Truck Hijackers : Peach Truck Hijackers

When listening to Peach Truck Hijackers‘ self-titled debut, there’s an immediate acknowledgement of style influences. 39 minutes of music go by fast and you’re shoved into the rock universe that the band has created.

And what’s apparent is the many different angles that Peach Truck Hijackers attack the genre. “Compressed Annoyance” is an alternative rock song mixed with dark garage rock. It’s moody and plodding, the tempo helping to create drama in the introduction.

Then “Radio Radio” sounds like British rock mixed with punk rock. The direct and simple recording allows the composition to speak plainly to the listener. Generally, it’s difficult to center Peach Truck Hijackers and provide a simple explanation of their music. “Rubbish” is grrrl punk, reminding of Bikini Kill. “Fuck You” is pushing a post-punk and funk energy. The core of Peach Truck Hijackers is a swirling tornado of rock.

“What Am I To Do” was a surprising track because it sounds like a mix of 90s alternative rock, country, and pop punk. It’s an impressive fusion of music that works in an addictive way. Honestly, Peach Truck Hijackers sounds like a 1990s compilation sampler and remix album all at once. “From Your Dead Body” has a similar audio narrative to Filter‘s “Take A Picture.”

I will say that the last three songs of the album are my favorite. They have more intention and showcase individual sides to the band clearly. “Wrong Bus Adventure” and “Dreamgazi” are definitely songs to add to playlists.

Peach Truck Hijackers are a sum of their influences. In every song, you can hear elements of other bands or song hooks. But they’re able to create a unique sound while rummaging through the verses. The album is a fun listen, and each song is good, but it also shows that the band is young and is still rough in places.
