Short Stuff 34: ANI HAN, Maegandang, ddbb, susumoon, HAYASI CAKE HOUSE, yooji, Choi jin soul,

ANI HAN : Summer in Seoul

AHI HAN‘s first single “Summer in Seoul” reminds me of Lana Del Rey at the core. And as a debut single, it’s very strong. It’s an easygoing mellow song that sits in your head.

Maegandang : Forest of the Sea

Maegandang is another group bringing traditional Korean music into a modern setting and translates it into new forms. The group calls it “neo traditional” and “neo music” and that probably the best way to understand it. A great single.

ddbb : rabbit dash

ddbb returns with a funk pop single that’s a perfect summer drive track. This song will make you crack a smile as you fall into the groove.

susumoon : Ash

“Ash” gave me the same feeling that I got when I first heard eundohee and Meaningful Stone. susumoon has a haunting indie rock and folk presentation that draws you in. And even though it’s not a new sound overall, it’s addictive.

HAYASI CAKE HOUSE : summer summer

With a name like HAYASI CAKE HOUSE, the music could have been from any genre. “summer summer” is a mellow pop and funk song. It’s a nice jump from commonly heard styles.

yooji : crazy

It’s difficult to define yooji‘s style other than a hybrid of fun. It’s got pop, R&B, funk, jazz, and indie rock all mixed together. She has a unique sound and voice and that makes “crazy” a repeat listen. It could easily be an OST track.

Choi jin soul : My Kitty

After “DOWNFALL,” Choi jin soul’s next single is “My Kitty.” Compared to the previous single, this one sounds a lot more cohesive. It’s leaning into R&B pop with some standard arrangement but overall it’s a more engaging single.
