Room306 : 작은 숲 Petite Jungle

I forget that Room306 debuted in 2015. When they first emerged, they had an electronic mixed with jazz and pop style. With each subsequent release, Room 306 added slight changes, exploring different genres and adding new sounds. According to their bio, the group went on hiatus and returned to release 2021’s BOOZE AND PETAL. With two 2023 singles, the group returned with Petite Jungle.

And with Petite Jungle, again according to their bio, Room306 is introducing the band’s new jungle-style songs. And what I didn’t notice before, but it could be that Petite Jungle is actually a reimagining of previous Room306 tracks. I listened to at Doors a lot when it was released. And “6” on Petite Jungle is “Belief.” Unfortunately, I am only sure of “6.” But in terms of this jungle sound, it sounds perfectly natural.

The reason why jungle works, to me, is that 이히읗‘s vocals match the tone and quality of the instrumentals. They never feel strange or out of place with the different electronic layers. It’s like placing a jazz-esque vocal line over the jungle instrumental. “5” showcases this perfectly. The mellow, melodic, and percussive instrumentals support the vocals and keep things interesting by changing verse by verse.

If this is the next chapter for Room306, I can see it finding a lot of fans. The older music had a unique quality that was perfect for the time but might also be an age-related interest. Petite Jungle has a classic and timeless energy, probably because of the genre, that always sounds fresh and new.

There’s nothing to complain about with Room306’s Petite Jungle. It’s a quick listen at 19 and a half minutes. But each song is unique and engaging. I can see a lot of great music coming from this new music genre choice. Hopefully there’s more on the way.
