When I listened to co_os and pida, I thought it was two collaborating artists. But after reading about the album, it goes one step further. The two married and made songs together. The main single, “our memories could be our strength” is a mellow indie and R&B track that’s comfortable and inviting, and that’s what drew me in.
The six songs from the pair lean on the strengths of the individual. co_os’ producer background meshes well with pida’s singer-songwriter ability. And what sticks out the most is that homemade is a combination of the pair’s individual abilities that presents something new.
From “molayo” and its slight electronic, indie, folk, and R&B presentation to “?” and its pop and R&B style, co_os and pida created an EP that feels like it’s a break from a hectic day. “With You!” is a 2024 single that was released with the couple’s wedding. As the middle track, it sits as the anchor to the entire EP.
If you listen to each artist’s original work and then go through homemade, it feels like this EP was a way for both to freely explore ideas and use each other’s abilities to create something new. While the core style isn’t new, the way pida’s vocals come across, like on “the second letter,” and co_os’ collaborative production work is excellent.
The intro of “4U” may be the closest you’ll get to solo pida before the instrumental starts. As the closer, it’s a quick and simple goodbye. The 13:13 playtime goes quickly here, but it’s easy to come back and listen to homemade when you need a pick me up.
